2026 Softball Offensive Player of the Year: Sophie Gee

Now that the spring sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next week, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in boys golf, boys tennis, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls track & field, girls soccer, softball, and baseball.

The Coastal Preps Softball Offensive Player of the Year is sophomore catcher Sophie Gee from Hoggard. 

Sophie’s Accomplishments

Sophie Gee took her game to another level during her sophomore season. 

The standout catcher led the Carolina Coast Conference with a .429 batting average (30-for-70). She also had 10 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 27 RBI, and 27 runs scored. 

Opposing pitchers became so aware of her success that they often pitched around her. Gee worked 18 walks and struck out only six times for an incredible on-base percentage of .560. 

Gee collected at least one hit in 20 of Hoggard’s 24 games, including 10 multi-hit performances. 

The Vikings finished 14-10 and reached the NCHSAA 8A East final for the first time since 2021.

Favorite thing about your school or team: Even though my team is young, we are all super competitive and want each other to get better.

Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals? If so, what are they?: I have to wear the same batting gloves even though they are falling apart and are brown. I have to meditate if I’m feeling extra antsy. I HAVE to hit on my own the night before.

Do you prefer cold or hot weather?: Hot

Would you rather watch a movie at home or in the theater?: At home

What is one hidden talent you have that most people don’t know about?: I can paint really well.

What is one thing you want people to know about you besides being a great athlete?: That I’m almost a better artist.
