COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE WEEK

SOFTBALL

Holly Shelter 8, Murray 6

Played Wednesday

A four-run top of the sixth inning lifted the Hurricanes to a comeback road victory in a battle of unbeatens. 

Holly Shelter collected 11 hits, including two a piece from Kate Murphrey and Taylor Skobel. 

Mia Monahan hit a double, and Sienna Messina tripled.

Murray had two runners on in the bottom of the sixth inning, but a double play ended the game. The Hurricanes’ center fielder caught a fly ball and threw out the runner trying to tag up and advance to third base. 

Trask 16, Myrtle Grove 1 (3 innings)

Played Wednesday

The top three batters in the Bears lineup – Quinn Ridgeway, Ioanna Efstahiadis, and Mckenna Ericksen, all scored three runs in the mercy-rule win. 

Ericksen and Ainsley Wirtel both finished 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. 

Ericksen allowed one unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts in two innings. Hallee Degier recorded the final three outs. 

Mae Davidson Raegan Hawkins each had a single for Myrtle Grove. 

Noble 16, Williston 1 (3 innings)

Played Wednesday

The Eagles scored eight runs in each of the first two innings to pick up their first victory of the season. 

Third baseman Gracelyn Harrison hit a two-run triple to right field to increase the Noble lead to 12-0. 

Quinn Dearie, Natalie Gates, Molly Sasscer, and Evie Tarr all scored twice. 

Pitchers Bella Cammilleri and Tarr combined on a two-hitter with six strikeouts. 

Murray 9, Trask 7

Played Thursday

The Falcons bounced back nicely from their first loss of the season by scoring six runs in the top of the fourth inning to grab the lead for good.

Seven players combined for 10 hits. Addi Coniglio was 2-for-2 with a triple, home run, two RBI, and one run scored. Her inside-the-park homer in the sixth inning increased Murray’s (3-1) lead to 9-5.

Kate Peal earned the victory by pitching four inning with seven strikeouts. Coniglio struck out five batters in her two innings of work. 

Peal and Elan King each finished with two hits and one run. Leadoff batter Kaylee LaChapelle had three RBI. 

Trask (1-2) shortstop Ionna Efstahiadis went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Quinn Ridgeway also crossed the plate twice. 

Pitcher Mckenna Ericksen struck out eight batters. 

Holly Shelter 20, Myrtle Grove 5 (3 innings)

Mia Monahan pitched a complete game and went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI, and two runs in a mercy-rule win. 

Holly Shelter (4-0) finished with 12 hits. The visitors scored eight runs in the first inning, five in the second, and seven in the third. 

Shortstop Kinsley Silva was 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBI, and two runs. Kaia Urban went 2-for-3 with two runs. Gwen Saulter scored twice, while Olivia Kistler drove in three runs. 

Myrtle Grove (0-3) scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Mae Davidson went 1-for-2 with an RBI single and a run. 

Roland-Grise 11, Noble 3 (5 innings)

Played Thursday

The Knights sent 12 batters to the plate during an eight-run bottom of the third inning.

Clara Kay got the scoring started with a two-run home run. Elsie Bordeaux and Finn Archibald later had RBI singles. 

Micah Harris finished 2-for-2 with a walk, one RBI, and two runs scored. 

Bordeaux was 2-for-3 with two runs, while Archibald went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Terzian also had a nice day at the plate by going 2-for-3 with one run. 

Roland-Grise (3-0) pitcher Jordyn Lee threw a complete game. She allowed one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts. 

Noble (1-3) finished with four hits, including two from Hazel Sawyer. Pitcher Bella Cammilleri recorded six strikeouts.

FOOTBALL

Noble 22, Holly Shelter 20 (OT)

Played Wednesday

A thrilling battle between talented teams came down to the wire, with the Eagles prevailing at home in overtime. 

Amir Leslie, Liam Gore, and Julius Allen scored Noble’s (1-1) touchdowns. Leslie ran in the game-winning two-point conversion. The other conversion came from Gore. 

Ford Turner came up with an important interception late in the game, while David Wortman blocked a kick.

Holly Shelter (1-1) got a pair of fumble recoveries from Kyree Bryant. He also led the team in tackles and rushing yards. 

Trask 8, Williston 0

Played Wednesday

Both defenses dominated in a game that featured five turnovers, but was ultimately won by the Falcons on a long touchdown run from Kannon Jacobs midway through the fourth quarter.  

The two-point conversion run from Isaac Hertzog was good. Murray (2-0) hasn’t allowed any points through the opening two weeks of the season. 

Williston (0-1) got excellent two-way performances from Henry Straw (62 rushing yards and 12 tackles) and Yuri Scott Jr. (66 rushing yards and five tackles). Jordan Butler and Jayceon George each came down with an interception.

Roland-Grise 48, Myrtle Grove 0

Played Wednesday

It was a dominant performance from the Knights, who cruised at home to remain tied atop the county standings with Murray. 

Connor Arroyo, Malik Biggerstaff, Wyatt Caffee, Jylen Kinlaw, Colton Phillips, Sully Smith, and London West had the touchdowns. 

Roland-Grise improved to 2-0 and Myrtle Grove fell to 0-2.

VOLLEYBALL

St. Mark 2, Myrtle Grove Christian 1 (15-25, 25-17, 26-24)

Aria Ray put down eight kills and served three aces to help the Lion remain unbeaten on the season.

St. Mark (3-0) finished with 15 aces. Setter Francesca Rohena handed out 22 assists and served a team-high four aces. 

Run Lowman put down six kills to go along with three kills. Carley Watkins chipped in three kills, while Shelby Aiken and Iris McGowan had two kills a piece.
