COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

No. 1 Hoggard 1, No. 3 New Hanover 0

A physical rivalry contest went to the Vikings, who increased their winning streak in the series to seven. 

Junior midfielder Sawyer Ingham volleyed home the lone goal off a service from Harrison Dyer in the 47th minute. 

“We were fighting hard all game, and it was great to get the goal,” Ingham said. “Really a relief off our shoulders.”

Hoggard (9-1-1, 2-0 Carolina Coast) goalkeeper William Nichols earned the clean sheet by making a pair of saves. 

Sawyer put a free kick on goal late in the first half, but New Hanover’s (8-2, 1-1) Andy McIntosh made a stellar diving save. 

The Wildcats’ best scoring opportunity came with less than 10 minutes remaining in the match. A corner kick from Keinner Martinez found the head of Fisher Manning, but the ball slid just wide. 

The Vikings host Laney at 6 p.m. Thursday, while New Hanover welcomes Ashley on Thursday night at 6.

No. 4 Laney 3, No. 5 Topsail 2

After playing a scoreless opening 40 minutes, the teams combined for five goals in the second half.

Laney (12-1-1, 2-0-1 Carolina Coast) came out on top thanks to goals from Henry Tidey, Noah Tidey and Andres Torres Romero.

Goalkeepers Sam Walter and Francisco Arevalo Pineda combined for seven saves. Ben Bastable and Noah Tidey each had one assist. 

Topsail’s (7-5-1, 1-2) goals came from Trenton Williams and Garland Yopp. 

Achy Boutis had the lone assist, while goalkeeper Josh Edwards finished with five saves.  

Both teams return to action Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Buccaneers play at Hoggard, and the Pirates welcome West Brunswick.

No. 8 West Brunsick 3, No. 12 North Brunswick 2 (OT)

Avery Kollman found the back of the net in the second 10-minute overtime period to lead the Trojans past their county rival. 

Kollman finished with two goals, while Anh Nguyen had one. 

West Brunswick (7-3, 1-2 Carolina Coast) visits Topsail on Thursday at 6 p.m. North Brunswick (7-7-1, 0-3) hosts Ashley at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

No. 7 Coastal Christian 4, Swansboro 0

The Centurions bounced back nicely from Monday’s defeat by cruising to a nonconference home win.

Senior forward Brody Wilson recorded a hat trick to increase his season goal total to 20. 

Tanner Getz also found the back of the net. Jackson Baker, Sean Cazeault, and Luke Martin had the assists. 

Coastal Christian (11-5) goalkeeper Will Santiello preserved the shutout by stopping all four shots he faced.

Next up is a match at Topsail on Monday night at 6. 

No. 9 Wilmington Christian Academy 9, Hilltop Christian 0

A hat trick from Keegan Tighe guided the Patriots to their fourth consecutive victory. 

Aiden McDonough added to his area-leading point total by scoring twice and dishing out one assist. 

WCA (9-3-2, 7-0 NCCSA 2A District 4 East) also got two goals from Thomas Lenfesty as well as one apiece from Burgin Neal and Matthew Schultz. 

Ryan Asbury,  Noah Gerlich, Parker Hildreth, Brody Meshaw and Alijah Shelton all dished out one assist.

Goalkeepers Micah Harmon (three saves in 70 minutes) and Elijah Pope (10 minutes) shared the clean sheet.

A home match against Southeastern Homeschool on Tuesday at 4 p.m. awaits the Patriots. 

VOLLEYBALL

No. 8 Laney 3, No. 3 Ashley 1

26-24, 14-25, 25-19, 27-25

Grace Johnson finished with nine kills and 12 digs, and the Buccaneers avenged an earlier-season loss.

Laney (6-8, 5-3 Carolina Coast) played well defensively by coming up with 65 digs. Libero Natalie Dickerson led the way with 16.

Abbey Hendren recorded a double-double with 22 assists and 10 digs. Kinsley Nagle handed out 19 assists. 

Libby Harrington had seven kills and three blocks, while Jenna Powe added six kills and three blocks. Ansleigh Austin put down eight kills.

Ashley (11-8, 4-4) outside hitter Jessie Hill led all players with 18 kills. 

Addyson Barberich and Abby Tolhurst both had eight kills. Middle Marley Burk finished with seven digs and five blocks. 

Sarah Brannin dished out 43 assists to go along with eight digs.

The Buccaneers welcome Topsail on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Screaming Eagles host South Brunswick at 6 p.m. Monday. 

No. 2 Topsail 3, No. 10 North Brunswick 0

25-12, 25-11, 25-10

The Pirates completed the sweep by hitting .319 with 40 kills from nine players. 

Senior Valentina Bugnatto hit .524 with a match-high 13 kills. Topsail (10-4, 7-1 Carolina Coast) also got six kills apiece from Kaili Grenier, Charlotte Latta and Josie Nelson.  

Hannah Losey had 18 assists and three aces, while Hannah Gates chipped in 13 assists and four aces. 

Both teams play again Thursday night at 6. The Pirates visit Laney, and North Brunswick (7-9, 2-6) hosts West Brunswick.

No. 1 Hoggard 3, No. 13 West Brunswick 0

25-8, 25-9, 25-17

It was business as usual for the Vikings, who maintained their one-game lead over Topsail in the Carolina Coast Conference standings. 

UNCW commit Norah Davis hit .727 with nine kills and two blocks. Ellie Keene added seven kills.  

Hoggard (15-3, 7-0 Carolina Coast) got strong performances from setters Reed Gosselink (11 assists and four aces) and Lily Voth (13 assists and three aces).

The Vikings visit New Hanover for a 6 p.m. match Thursday. West Brunswick (3-12, 0-8) plays at North Brunswick on Thursday at 6 p.m.

No. 7 Trask 3, Clinton 1

20-25, 25-17, 25-23, 25-21

Mati McPherson put down 15 of the Titans’ 33 kills in the home win. 

Trask (10-4, 3-1 East Central) also got eight kills from Sophie Williamson. 

Jalyn Reece Murray handed out 15 assists, while fellow setter Riley Grace Parker finished with 11. 

The Titans host Pender on Wednesday night at 6. 

Hilltop Christian 3, No. 9 Wilmington Christian Academy 1

12-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-23

After cruising in the opening set, the visiting Patriots dropped the next three. 

Hannah Pollard put down nine kills and added six blocks. WCA (11-9, 6-1 NCCSA 2A District 4 East) also got five kills and five blocks from Ava Gray as well as five kills and four aces from Audyn Wenzel. 

Georgia Taydus dished out 12 assists, and Emma Johnson had eight. Nora Rutland came up with 12 digs. 

The Patriots welcome Liberty Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. Monday. 

East Duplin 3, No. 14 Pender 0 

25-9, 25-16, 25-14

The Patriots remained winless in East Central Conference play despite getting five kills and three blocks from Victoria Wells. 

Charleigh Rivenbark came up with a team-high eight digs, while Kaylee Woodcock chipped in six. 

Pender (4-11, 0-4) setter Ryley Bradshaw handed out five assists.

A match at rival Trask on Wednesday at 6 p.m. is next on the schedule. 

GIRLS TENNIS

South Brunswick 9, West Bladen 0

Carys Subach (No. 1), Lana Harden (No. 4) and Trinity Harden (No. 5) had 8-0 scores in singles action to help the Cougars complete the sweep. 

Phoebe Cumbee dropped only one game at No. 2, while Opal Grey Boehmer (No. 3) and Journey Harden (No. 6) won 8-2. 

South Brunswick’s (8-2, 6-0 Southeastern) doubles points came from Boehmer/Lana Harden (8-2 at No. 1), Cumbee/Trinity Harden (8-1 at No. 2) and Journey Harden/Kate Harrington (8-6 at No. 3).

The Cougars play at West Brunswick on Monday at 4 p.m.

Topsail 9, North Brunswick 0

Seniors Cayden Persichetti and Reed Garofano cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins at the top two singles positions and later teamed up for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Avery Graham (6-1, 6-2 at No. 3), Adelia Ellington (6-2, 6-2 at No. 4), Reese Plaford (6-0, 6-1 at No. 5) and Mollie Haskinski (6-3, 6-0 at No. 6) also prevailed.

Topsail (6-4, 5-4 Carolina Coast) got doubles points from Kacey Higgs/Taylor Locke (8-3 at No. 2) and Olivia Barras/Lauren Fabbie (9-7 at No. 3). 

Both teams are back in action Thursday at 4 p.m. The Pirates visit Laney, while North Brunswick (1-10, 1-8) hosts West Brunswick. 

Hoggard 9, West Brunswick 0

The Vikings rolled to their sixth sweep of the season to remain undefeated. 

Mia Neuwirth (No. 4), Kennedy Lawrence (No. 5) and Laura Beth Jenkins (No. 6) all picked up 6-0, 6-0 singles victories.

Hoggard’s (13-0, 8-0 Carolina Coast) other three singles points came from Libby Williamson (6-0, 6-2 at No. 1), Emmy Brookshire (6-3, 6-2 at No. 2) and Celine Rineer (6-1, 6-3 at No. 3).

Rineer and Lawrence didn’t drop a game at No. 3 doubles. The two other teams – Williamson/Allie Sauer (No. 1) and Neuwirth/Audrey Bobo (No. 2) – had identical 8-1 scores.

The Vikings visit New Hanover at 4 p.m. Thursday. West Brunswick (0-10, 0-9) visits North Brunswick on Thursday at 4 p.m.
