Fourth round NCHSAA 3A playoffs
Senior shortstop Lauren Hall belted a solo home run with two outs in the top of the seventh inning to send the Titans into the East Regional final for just the second time.
After winning its first four playoff games, the 2013 team was swept by South Creek.
This year’s opponent will be No. 2 McMichael, which rallied for a 3-2 walk-off victory over No. 3 Farmville Central.
Games 1 and 3 (if necessary) will be played at McMichael, while Game 2 will take place at Trask. Times and dates will be announced over the weekend.
Trask (14-4) scored twice in the top of the first inning. Jalyn Reece-Murray doubled on the first pitch of the game and scored on a throwing error following a bunt from Dava Bullard.
Bullard later crossed the plate on a wild pitch with two outs.
The lead grew to 3-0 an inning later on an RBI groundout from Reece-Murray that plated freshman Peyton Bowie, who drew a leadoff walk.
Taylor Sparkman led off the fifth inning with a walk. After stealing a pair of bases, she scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2.
Midway (21-2) evened the score in the bottom of the sixth inning, but it was short-lived.
After back-to-back strikeouts, Hall stepped up to the plate. She fouled off the first pitch and watched the second come in for a ball.
The 1-1 pitch was driven to right field and sailed over the fence to put the visitors back on top.
Bullard needed just five pitches to retire the Raiders in order in the bottom of the frame and seal the victory. The junior pitcher held a potent offense that averaged 10.2 runs per game to just four.
Hall and Reece-Murray both finished with two hits. Maddie Hallman also had a single.
