For the second time this week, Hoggard senior Dylan Lewis finished atop the leaderboard in a Mideastern Conference match.
Lewis was part of a four-way tie on Tuesday at Castle Bay. This time he got a solo victory by shooting an even-par 72 that included two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars.
New Hanover teammates William Davis and Carson Etters were one stroke back. Davis had three birdies, while Etters recorded one eagle and one birdie.
Will Cherry (82) and Crispin Domescik (83) had the other counting scores.
The Wildcats and Topsail both finished with team scores of 311, but New Hanover’s fifth player – Chris Etters had a better score (88) than Topsail’s Adam Cook (91).
David Quinones had the best round for the Pirates with a 74 to finish fourth. Bryce Koehler tied for fifth after carding a 75, while Sterrett Farmer had an 80 to place 10th. Tristan Lodato’s 82 was also a counting score.
Hoggard’s Maddux Cook equaled Koehler with a 75.

Cape Fear Academy, Coastal Christian compete in CPIC match
Senior Vaughn Brodowski of Coastal Christian shot a 1-under-par 69 to lead all area players in a Coastal Plain Independent Conference match at New Bern Country Club.
Cape Fear Academy had a team total of 309 to finish two strokes back of Wayne Country Day. The counting scores came from Spencer Mills (76), William Wells (76), William Mann (77) and Cash Scerri (80).
In addition to Brodowski, the Centurions also counted scores from Chet Kight (76), Jonah Struntz (81) and Preston Shumate (89).
GIRLS SOCCER
No. 7 South Brunswick 1, No. 14 Wilmington Christian Academy 0
Goalkeeper Skylar Murray saved all 12 shots she faced, including a penalty kick, to earn the clean sheet and give the Cougars a hard-fought road win.
South Brunswick’s (1-1-2) goal came in the first half from Meryn Deutsch off an assist from Hailey Adkisson.
Both teams will be back in action Monday. The Cougars host Coastal Christian at 6 p.m., while WCA (3-1-0) travels to Greenville Christian Academy at 5 p.m.
No. 6 Coastal Christian 2, Arendell Parrott Academy 0
The Centurions earned their second shutout victory of the week by scoring once in each half.
Mady Burnham and MC Shearin found the back of the net. Riley Robertson dished out one assist.
Coastal Christian (4-1-1, 3-0 CPIC) goalkeeper Evie Munroe earned the clean sheet by stopping three shots.
A match at South Brunswick on Monday night at 6 is next on the schedule.
No. 5 Cape Fear Academy 3, Greenfield 0
Priya Belle’s goal in the 22nd minute off an assist from Lulu Wells proved to be the game winner.
CFA (2-0-1, 1-0 CPIC) tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the 40th minute from Millie Heaney and 45th minute from Emma Gibbs.
Georgie McGrath and Milly Kelley both handed out an assist. Goalkeeper Naomi Shanewise finished with one save. She still has not conceded a goal through three matches.
The Hurricanes welcome Wayne Christian at 4 p.m. Friday.
No. 2 Hoggard 9, No. 11 North Brunswick 0
Seven Vikings found the back of the net in a dominant home victory that completed the season sweep.
Avery Fisher finished with two goals and three assists, while Mia Neuwirth added a pair of goals.
The other goals came from Brielle Archer, Ava Gregorio, Ellis Kelly, Charlie Ray and Sophie Scott.
Kelly, Addy Delavore, Graysen Fisher and Reese George each had one assist.
Neither goalkeeper – Taylor Williams (40 minutes) or Kylah Long (18 minutes) – faced a shot on goal.
The Vikings travel to South Brunswick at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
No. x Whiteville 3, West Bladen 1
Goals from Gaby Cortez, Leslie Pham and LaNaya Moore gave the Wolfpack their first win of the season.
It snapped a six-game losing streak that dated back to last spring.
Whiteville (1-2) visits Trask at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Jacksonville 1, No. 3 Laney 0
The only goal of the match came on a penalty kick in the 55th minute.
Laney (3-2-2) goalkeeper Caeli Sullivan finished with four saves.
Next up is a game at West Brunswick on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL
No. 14 Wilmington Christian Academy 21, New Life Christian 6 (4 innings)
Freshman third baseman Lily Marella went 3-for-4 with a pair of home runs, six RBI and two runs scored to lead the Patriots to a season-opening win.
WCA (1-0) scored at least three runs in all four innings and finished with 19 hits from 10 players.
Peyton Hedge was 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and four runs scored. Amelia Naylor and Lydia Naylor both collected three hits.
Amelia Naylor, Emily Bloom, Sydney Giddings and Bayleigh Robinson all crossed the plate three times.
Pitcher Emily Bloom allowed only one hit in three innings. Amelia Naylor struck out the side in the top of the fourth.
The Patriots travel to Lejeune on Friday at 4 p.m.
Swansboro 7, No. 4 Topsail 6
Lauren Clinch and Ryley Strnad both scored a pair of runs, but the Pirates comeback effort came up just short.
Topsail (3-1) scored once in the first and third innings to grab early control, but the visitors went on top with a seven-run fourth that featured five hits and two errors.
A one-out double from Addy Dwyer in the fifth inning plated Olivia Smark to cut the deficit to 7-4. Easton J’Anthony advanced to third base on the hit, but both runners were stranded.
The Pirates scored two more runs in the sixth, but went down in order in their final trip to the plate.
Madyson Turlington was the hard-luck loser. She allowed only one earned run with three strikeouts in four innings. Freshman Addison Ash pitched the final three innings and scattered only two hits.
Next up is a game at North Brunswick on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
No. 2 Laney 14, No. 11 Whiteville 1
From Wednesday
The Buccaneers finished with 19 hits, including seven that went for extra-bases, in a lopsided road victory.
Sophomore Carly Krueger went 4-for-5 with a double, home run, two RBI and three runs scored. Kalli Short was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored.
Bailey Bettencourt belted a home run and had a team-best four RBI.
Laney (4-1) pitcher Brileigh Mathews went six innings and recorded nine strikeouts. Ally Brehmer struck out one batter in her lone inning.
Mathews, Makenly Horrell and Isabella Stevens all had two hits.
Both teams have home games Friday. The Buccaneers welcome South Brunswick at 6 p.m., while Whiteville (0-4) host St. Pauls at 5 p.m.
BASEBALL
No. 4 New Hanover 4, Reagan 2
A one-out single to right field from freshman Logan Pearce allowed Dominic Civelli to score what turned out to be the game-winning run in the fourth inning.
New Hanover (5-1) increased its lead to 4-1 an inning later when Civilli singled home Colton Creech.
Reagan scored once in the sixth, but the inning ended when shortstop Nick Marren threw out a runner at the plate. The visitors had two on with one out in the seventh, but Hudson Southerland closed the door with a strikeout and fly out.
Southerland allowed one unearned run with six strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. Pearce got the start and scattered two hits with a pair of strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.
Southerland, Pearce and Vinny Civelli all collected two hits.
The Wildcats visit Topsail at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Hoggard had at least two of the top three finishers in five events in addition to victories in three of the four relays to earn a meet win.
The Vikings went 1-2-3 in the 800 meters, 3200 meters and pole vault.
Antonio Wilt (800 in 2:08.59), Benjamin DiParisi (1,600 in 4:51.95), Patrick McWilliams (3,200 in 10:32.56) and Samuel Medlin (110 hurdles in 17.14) were victorious on the track.
Jackson Travis recorded a distance of 20-8 in long jump, while Blake Thompson clear 12-0 in pole vault.
The only athlete with a pair of individual wins was South Brunswick’s Teerapun Chanamun (5-8 in high jump and 43-5 in triple jump).
Teammate Nelson Ayala sprinted his way to a first-place finish in the 100 (11.34), while Jack Earley had a throw of 45-10 in shot put.
Laney got victories from Juliez Ramos (400 in 53.03) and Miles Fife (300 hurdles in 46.05). North Brunswick’s individual wins came from Reade Frink (200 in 22.19) and Logan Jenkins (125-4 in discus).

Teammates Saydee Harper and Kateria Peters both won a pair of individual events to help Laney cruise to the meet victory.
The Buccaneers swept the relays and had nine first-place finishes in the 13 individual events.
Harper had a time of 18.24 in the 100-meter hurdles and a distance of 31-0 in long jump. Peters finished the 800 in 2:31.55 and 1,600 in 5:50.01.
Laney’s other winners on the track were Qamarah McKoy (100 in 12.84), Camryn Oates (3,200 in 11:57.37) and Kiley Canter (300 hurdles in 50.86).
Marie Mathis went 15-9 in the long jump, while Jillian Stough had a distance of 103-10 in discus.
Hoggard got victories from Abella Exantus (200 in 26.45) and Eva Datillo (400 in 1:01.21), while South Brunswick teammates Addison Stone (4-4 in high jump) and Kylie Brock (30-3 in shot put) prevailed.

The Hurricanes bounced back nicely from Wednesday’s loss to Hoggard by dropping only four games in singles and five in doubles.
Owen Watkins (No. 1), Reed Pulliam (No. 4) and Will Pohlman (No. 5) all cruised to 6-0, 6-0 wins. Deniz Erdem (No. 2) and James Atkinson (No. 3) had identical 6-0, 6-1 scores, while Caden Mathews dropped just one game in each set.
Pulliam and Trey Ragan had an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles. The other two teams – Watkins/Erdem (8-4 at No. 1) and Atkinson/Pohlman (8-1 at No. 2) also rolled.
CFA (2-1, 1-0 CPIC) plays at Epiphany on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
New Hanover 8, Ashley 1
For the third day in a row, the Wildcats were victorious on their home court.
Alex Carter had a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 11-9 win at No. 5 singles.
New Hanover (7-1, 6-0 Mideastern) clinched the match with four other singles points. They came from Owen Alford (6-2, 6-4 at No. 1), Alistair Dameron (6-1, 6-3 at No. 2), Kiah Allen (6-2, 6-1 at No. 4) and Fitz David (6-2, 7-6 at No. 6).
The doubles teams of Dameron/Bryce Morrison (No. 1) and Allen/Carter (No. 3) had identical 8-3 scores. Alford teamed up with Colin Carter for an 8-6 victory.
Ashley’s (4-2, 4-2) lone win came from Ethan Zuege (6-4, 7-5 at No. 3).
A match at Hoggard on Tuesday at 4 p.m. awaits the Wildcats. The Screaming Eagles host Laney at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Hoggard 9, Topsail 0
Luke Preston (No. 2), Connor Weiss (No. 4), Drew Sica (No. 5) and Eli Williamson (No. 6) all won 6-0, 6-0 in singles to help the Vikings cruise on the road.
Teammates Ethan Ten Brink (No. 1) and Ashwin Varadarajan (No. 3) dropped just one game a piece.
Hoggard’s (7-1, 6-0) doubles wins came from the teams of Jake Barrow/Thomas Trimpey-Warhaftig (8-3 at No. 1), Cameron Franck/Jackson Franck (8-1 at No. 2) and Aidan Fitzgerald/Cody Fogelman (8-2 at No. 3).
Both teams are back in action Tuesday at 4 p.m. The Vikings host New Hanover, while Topsail (0-3, 0-3) visits North Brunswick.
