BOYS BASKETBALL

Coastal Christian 88, Community Christian School 53

First round of the FCA Winter Classic at Mount Olive

The Centurions shot 47 percent from the field (36 of 76) and had four players reach double figures in a lopsided victory.

Senior forward Skyler Davies had a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. He also added five assists and four steals. Coastal Christian (7-4) also got 21 points from Luke Davenport, who buried five of the team’s seven 3-pointers. 

Chazz Banks had 15 points and six rebounds and Matthew Kelly chipped in 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and three steals.  

The Centurions built a 24-14 lead after the opening eight minutes and put the game away by outscoring Community Christian School 27-13 in the third quarter.

In the semifinals, Coastal Christian will play Goldsboro at 6 p.m. Friday.

Trask 63, Wilmington Christian Academy 53

Semifinals of the Kenny Bass Christmas Tournament at Hobbton

Senior guard Watson Orr buried five 3-pointers en route to a game-high 20 points and Will Berry had a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Trask (5-4) finished with 10 3-pointers from five players. They led by four at halftime before expanding it to 51-41 after three quarters. Jakel White added 10 points, Robert Pridgen finished with seven and Tyran Pickett added six.

Greg Bowden scored nine of his team-high 17 points in a 20-point second quarter for WCA (2-8). Jalen Johnson finished with 12 points and Bryce Bordeaux added 10.

Both teams return to action Friday. The Patriots will face Hobbton in the third-place game at 4:30 p.m., while the Titans play Union in the championship game at 7:30 p.m.

West Brunswick 91, Dillon Christian (S.C.) 67

First round of the Adidas Christmas Tournament at West Bladen

Senior Jadyn Parker continued his hot start to the season by scoring a game-high 29 points to put the Trojans into the semifinals.

The North Florida signee had 14 points in a 49-point opening half for West Brunswick (7-2).

Ten players reached the scoring column, including 14 from J’vian McCray and 11 from Mannie Hankins. The Trojans, who will face Scotland County in the semifinals on Friday at 8 p.m., went 13 of 18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter and made 21 of 32 attempts for the game.

Pinecrest 64, North Brunswick 40

First round of the Adidas Christmas Tournament at West Bladen

The Scorpions suffered a 24-point loss despite getting 14 points from junior Levi Lindbert.

Devonte Beatty chipped in 13 points for North Brunswick (2-7), which takes on Pamlico in a consolation bracket game Friday at 2 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Ashley 44, Holly Springs 40

First round of the John Wall Holiday Invitational at Cary Academy

The Screaming Eagles ended a two-game losing streak by holding on for a hard-fought victory.

Junior Saniya Rivers finished with a game-high 25 points to go along with 13 rebounds, five steals and four assists. She had a late steal and layup to secure the win.

Ashley (6-2) also got seven points and 11 rebounds from Lexi Hinson as well as six points from Annalise Saffo. They will take on Southeast Raleigh on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the semifinals.

Clayton 66, Cape Fear Academy 36

First round of the John Jacobs Christmas Classic at Cleveland

Recent Washington University in St. Louis commit Chloe Kernan scored 15 points, but it wasn’t enough.

CFA (9-4), which plays Fuquay-Varina at 10 a.m. Friday in a consolation bracket contest, fell behind 17-7 after the opening quarter and 33-15 at halftime. 

Kernan and Katie Rudow each hit a pair of 3-pointers. Rudow finished with 10 points, while Bella Erichsen finished with seven.
