Cape Fear Academy’s Spencer Mills and Coastal Christian’s Chet Kight both shot a 1-over-par 37 to share medalist honors. 

Mills made three birdies in a four-hole stretch. Kight’s lone birdie came on the par-3 eighth hole.

CFA middle schoolers Ryan Korman and Bryan Wells finished one stroke back. The Hurricanes also counted a 39 from senior William Wells.

Luke Burton (39), Easton Wells (46), and Mason Hartmann (52) had the other counting scores for Coastal Christian. 

BASEBALL

No. 6 North Brunswick 10, No. 1 Topsail 0 (6 innings)

Dylan Stacks was outstanding on the mound, scattering just three hits and recording five strikeouts without issuing a walk. 

North Brunswick (10-8, 3-5 Carolina Coast) scored in five of six trips to the plate. The game ended early on a sacrifice fly from Ryan Grisso.

Grisso also had a single, three walks, two stolen bases, two RBI, and three runs scored. 

Fisher Goodwin went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Hayden Bunn finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. 

Topsail (15-4, 6-2) got doubles from Rhett Britt and Fisher Taylor.

Both teams return to action Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Scorpions play at West Brunswick, while the Pirates host Laney. 

No. 9 Ashley 4, No. 2 Laney 2

The Screaming Eagles picked up their first Carolina Coast Conference victory behind a great start from southpaw Noah Swanson. 

He allowed two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts in six innings before turning things over to Elijah Setzer, who recorded the save by getting the final three outs.  

Ashley (4-15, 1-7) grabbed a 3-2 lead in the third inning on back-to-back doubles from Keola McLain and Garrett Dye. 

McLain went 3-for-3 with a walk, while Dye finished 2-for-3 with a walk.   

A sacrifice fly from Xander Tsingelis in the fourth inning completed the scoring. 

Laney’s (13-4, 5-3) runs came on a sacrifice fly from Owen Gore in the first inning and a double from Jackson Noon in the second. 

Relief pitcher Logan Grainger threw three scoreless innings.

The Screaming Eagles play at Richmond at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Buccaneers visit Topsail on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

No. 7 Hoggard 7, No. 4 West Brunswick 3

Eight starters combined for 14 hits as the Vikings secured their third straight win. 

Leadoff batter Taylor Stewart was 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run scored. Colin Kilcommons, Lucas Mathews, Preston Smith, and Briggs Ulrich all went 2-for-4. 

Hoggard (12-7, 2-5 Carolina Coast) scored twice in the top of the first inning on a one-out single from Smith and never trailed. 

Stewart finished off the scoring in the seventh by singling home Sawyer Stott

Ulrich, London Summers, and Aiden Weninger all saw time on the mound and combined for eight strikeouts.

West Brunswick’s (9-9, 4-4) Josiah Borton was 3-for-3 with a walk, triple, one RBI, and one run.

The Vikings welcome New Hanover on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The Trojans host North Brunswick at 6:30 p.m. Friday. 

No. 5 South Brunswick 8, South Columbus 3

Sid Dale continued his stellar season by allowing only one earned run and striking out seven batters in six strong innings. 

Jayden Daniels finished things off by recording three strikeouts in the seventh. He also went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and one run scored. 

Harrison Mears finished 4-for-5 with a triple, two RBI, and one run.

South Brunswick (10-7, 3-2 Southeastern) took a 4-3 lead in the sixth inning on a single to right field from Grady Sotriffer. The visitors tacked on four insurance runs in the seventh. 

The teams will play again at South Brunswick on Friday at 7 p.m.

No. 8 Wilmington Christian Academy 15, Living Water Christian 0 (3 innings)

Skyler Murray went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the mercy-rule win. 

Ten WCA (16-5, 8-0 NCCSA 2A District 4) players scored at least once. Chase Bowen, Braden Lester, and Colton Williamson all crossed the plate two times. 

Bowen was 2-for-2 with a walk, double, and two RBI. Cayden Woolard threw a one-hitter with five strikeouts. 

The Patriots play at Croatan at 6 p.m. Monday. 

SW Onslow 4, No. 10 Trask 3

The Titans held an 11-5 advantage in hits, but committed seven errors to fall on the road. 

Brantley Lunsford pitched well, allowing three unearned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in six innings.

He also went 3-for-3 with one of Trask’s (6-8, 0-5 East Central) four doubles. 

Chance Kibbey, Cooper Uhland, and Jaden Reece-Murray all finished with a pair of hits.

The teams play at Trask on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Parrott Academy 16, No. 12 Coastal Christian 3

SOFTBALL

No. 5 North Brunswick 11, No. 1 Topsail 8

Senior right fielder Aaliyah Shaw went 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBI, and three runs scored in the upset victory.

Shaw put North Brunswick (8-9, 3-3 Carolina Coast) on top with her three-run homer in the second inning. Gabby Elkins and Sophie Garst, who both worked walks, also scored. 

Garst had a two-run double in the third inning. Shaw followed by driving in two more runs with a base hit. She later scored on a groundout to increase the lead to 8-1.  

Sophie Garst was 2-for-3 with three runs. Adrianna Gomez finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run

Topsail (12-6, 6-1) collected 12 hits. Lauren Clinch went 3-for-4 with a double, one RBI, and two runs.

Mae Rimel was 2-for-3 with a walk, double, and two RBI. Addison Ash finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run.

Easton J’Anthony hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning.

The Scorpions travel to East Duplin on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Pirates will look to bounce back when they host Laney at 6:30 p.m. Friday. 

No. 6 Hoggard 2, No. 4 West Brunswick 0

Both teams got terrific efforts in the circle from freshman pitchers, but a two-run homer from Logan Ulrich in the top of the seventh proved to be the difference. 

Olivia Demertiou led off with a line drive single to right field to set the stage for Ulrich, who hit the 1-2 pitch over the left field fence. 

Sydney Perry threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts. She retired the final 14 batters. 

Hoggard (8-7, 3-3) was led offensively by Addison Jumper, who went 3-for-3 with a walk and a double. Sophie Gee and Sami Hoemann also doubled.

West Brunswick (12-5, 3-4) pitcher Pressley Wilson also recorded 11 strikeouts.

The lone hit for the home team was a two-out single in the second inning from Aubrey Brown.

The Vikings visit Topsail at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Trojans welcome North Brunswick on Friday night at 6:30. 

No. 3 Laney 17, No. 9 Ashley 3 (5 innings)

The Buccaneers pounded out 17 hits to roll to their eighth consecutive victory in the series. 

Ally Brehmer went 3-for-3 with three doubles, five RBI, and three runs. Carly Krueger finished 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and one run.

Laney (10-4, 5-2 Carolina Coast) starting pitcher Makenly Horrell struck out six batters in two innings. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. 

Isabella Stevens was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and one run. Briley Foster drove in two runs. 

Next up for the Buccaneers is a game at Topsail on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Ashley (3-11, 0-7) visits East Columbus at 5 p.m. Friday. 

No. 7 Trask 15, SW Onslow 3

Lauren Hall and Madison Peterson both hit home runs for the Titans, who finished with 15 hits. 

Peterson’s three-run homer in the third inning increased Trask’s (7-4, 3-2 East Central) lead to 4-0. 

Hall was 2-for-4 with a walk and four runs scored. Gia Odom went 3-for-5 with two doubles, four RBI, and two runs.

Makayla Smith finished 2-for-5 with a triple, four RBI, and one run. Dava Bullard and Jalyn Reece-Murray each went 2-for-5 with two runs.

Bullard scattered two hits in four scoreless innings to earn the win. Piper Nichols struck out four batters in her three innings. All three runs she allowed were unearned. 

Taylor Sparkman also had a strong offensive performance by going 2-for-4 with a walk, one RBI, and three runs.

The teams play again at Trask on Friday at 6 p.m.

No. 2 South Brunswick 13, South Columbus 0 (5 innings)

Addison Sellers pitched a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts and only one walk. 

South Brunswick (11-4, 4-0 Southeastern) scored seven runs in the top of the first inning. Emi Birkle cleared the bases with a double to center field. 

Hayden Gulick was 3-for-3 with a double, one RBI, and one run scored. Shea Brown finished 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Carly Clewis completed the scoring with a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Leadoff batter Savana Burgess was 2-for-4 with three runs.

The Cougars travel to Whiteville for a 6 p.m. game on Thursday. 

Liberty Christian 12, No. 11 Coastal Christian 6

All nine starters for the Centurions had at least one hit, but the visitors weren’t able to overcome eight errors. 

Chloe Cofer led the way by going 3-for-4 with two RBI. Alexi Clark went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored. 

Coastal Christian (1-4) also got two hits apiece from Mackenzie Davis, Eva Lancheros-Gillis, Lily Loiacono, and Violet Uebele. 

Clark pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts. Only two of the runs she allowed were earned. 

A home game against New Life Christian Academy on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. is next on the schedule. 

Freedom Christian Academy 14, No. 10 Wilmington Christian Academy 3

Senior catcher Lily Montes De Oca had both hits for the Patriots.

Lydia Naylor and Taylor Pierce worked walks and scored in the bottom of the sixth inning. 

WCA (5-4) visits Bethel Christian Academy on April 24 at 4:30 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

No. 2 Cape Fear Academy 2, No. 6 Coastal Christian 0

Claire Furmidge scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Priya Belle in the 43rd minute to keep the Hurricanes unbeaten.

CFA (12-0, 4-0 CPIC) doubled its lead in the 76th minute when Milly Kelly found the back of the net. The assist came from Sofia Pasquantonio. 

Goalkeeper Naomi Shanewise secured her ninth clean sheet by saving both shots she faced. 

The Hurricanes welcome Charlotte Catholic on Saturday at 10 a.m. Coastal Christian (6-4-2, 3-1) travels to Parrott Academy at 4 p.m. Thursday. 

No. 8 North Brunswick 4, No. 13 Southeastern Homeschool 2

Sophomore Emmalee Ogle recorded a hat trick for the victorious Scorpions. 

North Brunswick’s (8-6-1) other goal came from classmate Ali DeHart. It was her team-leading 23rd goal of the season. 

A match at New Hanover on Friday at 6 p.m. awaits the Scorpions. Southeastern Homeschool (3-3-1) travels to Fayetteville Homeschool at 4 p.m. Thursday. 

No. 7 South Brunswick 9, South Columbus 0

Six players found the back of the net for the Cougars, who increased their winning streak to six. 

Leading the way once again was standout junior Meryn Deutsch with four goals and two assists. 

Julia Bloch and Adelyn Yow both finished with one goal and two assists, while Hanna Lovell and Gabrielle Mccullough had one goal and one assist. 

The other goal came from Sienna Hoagland. 

South Brunswick (9-3, 5-0) goalkeeper Skylar Mercer made one save to earn the clean sheet.

The Cougars welcome West Brunswick for a 6 p.m. match on Wednesday. 

BOYS LACROSSE

Topsail 19, New Hanover 2

The Pirates easily completed the season sweep behind an eight-goal performance from Barrett Swinson. 

George Calvillo and Cooper Langan both scored twice, while Aengus Maxwell handed out a team-high four assists. 

Topsail (10-4, 6-2 Carolina Coast) got one goal apiece from Anthony Cates, Griff Davis, Nick Jones, Vance Major, Josh Mckay, Liam Riggs, and Kyle Romanek. 

New Hanover’s (2-11, 2-6) goals came from Reid Finnerty (two) and Jake Nelson (one).

Freshman goalie Jaden McCallum made nine saves in 24 minutes.

Both teams will be back in action Friday at 6:45 p.m. The Pirates host Ashley, while the Wildcats travel to North Brunswick.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Camden Reed scored five goals and dished out an assist for the Vikings in a shutout victory.  

Gigi Frick had a huge night by finishing with four goals, one assist, six draw controls, seven ground balls, and six caused turnovers. 

Hoggard (9-4, 5-2 Carolina Coast) got one goal and one assist from Bailey Bendjy, Vella Meadows, and Brenna McWilliams.

Santina Carello, Addison Coyle, and Camryn Lynge also found the back of the net. Mia Shade handed out three assists, while Katie Coble chipped in one. 

The Vikings play at South Brunswick on Thursday at 6 p.m. Ashley (3-8, 2-5) hosts Topsail at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

BOYS TENNIS

Hoggard 9, Laney 0

Ethan Ten Brink (No. 1), Eli Williamson (No. 3), Jake Barrow (No. 4), and Cameron Franck (No. 5) all won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. 

Luke Preston (6-0, 6-1 at No. 2) and Thomas Trimpey-Warhaftig (6-0, 6-4 at No. 6) also cruised. 

Hoggard (11-4, 10-1 Carolina Coast) had 8-4 scores in all three doubles matches. The teams were Connor Weiss/Grayson Williams (No. 1), Cody Fogleman/Josh Sudduth (No. 2), and Jackson Franck/William Morris (No. 3). 

The Vikings play at Cape Fear Academy on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Laney (5-8, 5-6) hosts New Hanover at 4 p.m. Thursday.
