2026 Boys Golfer of the Year: Spencer Mills

Now that the spring sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the next week, you will get to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in boys golf, boys tennis, boys and girls lacrosse, boys and girls track & field, girls soccer, softball, and baseball.

The Coastal Preps Boys Golfer of the Year is junior Spencer Mills from Cape Fear Academy.

Spencer’s Accomplishments

Consistency was the key to success for Cape Fear Academy’s Spencer Mills this season. 

The junior led all area players with a stroke average of 72.8. He shot 72 or better in five of his 11 rounds.  

Mills fired a season-low 69 by making five birdies on March 31 at Wilmington Municipal. It was one of his four victories. 

He ended the season with 32 birdies as well as an eagle.

Mills helped the Hurricanes finish as the runner-up at the NCIAAA 3A State Championship for the first time since 1994. He was fourth individually with rounds of 74-71.

If you could have dinner with any 3 people (dead or alive), who would they be?: My granddad Pop, Eric Church, and Jack Nicklaus

What is one hidden talent you have that most people don’t know about?: I’m ambidextrous

What is your favorite milkshake flavor from Cook Out?: Cookies and cream

What is one thing you want people to know about you besides being a great athlete?: I’m a big Carolina Hurricanes fan.
