Oak Island Loggerheads 6, Jacksonville Ospreys 3

Justin Dawkins (North Greenville) went 4-for-4 to help the Loggerheads bounce back from Saturday’s defeat with a home victory.

Oak Island (4-2, 4-2 Coastal Division) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. The only hit was a single from Dawkins to load the bases with one out. William Lehman (Hillsdale) followed and was hit by a pitch to increase the lead to 3-1. 

Ryan Riojas (Montgomery Bell Academy) completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly. 

An RBI double from Lehman in the sixth inning made it 5-2. The Loggerheads tacked on a final run in the seventh on a two-out single to left field by Garrett Strenger (Missouri St. Louis). 

Cline and Perez both scored twice. 

Cole Barnes (UNC Greensboro/Ashley) started on the mound and earned the win by allowing two runs with four strikeouts in five innings. Another local product – Jaden Marvin (USC Salkehatchie/South Brunswick) pitched a scoreless seventh inning. 

Cape Fear Ghost Crabs 10, Shallotte Shallywags 4

The Ghost Crabs remained unbeaten in Coastal Division play by exploding for six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Coleman Cross (West Virginia Wesleyan/Ashley) and Trey Pierce (Brunswick CC/WCA) remained hot at the plate by recording back-to-back hits. Gavin Marceric (Tiffin) walked to load the bases. 

Center fielder Drew Beard (Lenoir-Rhyne) followed with a bases-clearing double to give Cape Fear (5-1, 4-0 Coastal Division) a 6-4 lead. Trevor Testerman (Greensboro), Kayden Leck (Owens CC), and Brock Pollili (Tiffin) also crossed the plate to finish off the big inning. 

An RBI double from Testerman in the sixth inning plated Beard with the 10th run. 

Beard went 3-for-4 with a walk, two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run scored. Through six games, he is hitting .563 with a team-best seven RBI. 

Piece finished 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and three runs. He has a batting average of .333 and leads the league with 10 stolen bases. Cross is hitting .500 after going 1-for-3. 

Relief pitcher Davis Watson (Lynchburg) allowed only one hit and struck out six batters with only one walk in five shutout innings to earn the win. 

Shallotte (0-5, 0-5) got a pair of hits from Jaden Gummersbach (Pensacola State). Dillon Bullard’s (Mount Olive) two-run double in the third inning gave the visitors a 3-1 lead.
