Oak Island Loggerheads 7, Shallotte Shallywags 2

Catcher Garrett Strenger (Missouri St. Louis) went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and one run scored to lead the Loggerheads to their first victory.

The game was tied 2-2 after seven innings. Oak Island (1-1, 1-1 Carolina Division) scored three runs with outs in the eighth to grab the lead for good.

Strenger delivered the go-ahead hit, a two-run single to right field. He was able to advance to second base on the throw home and scored when Ayden Cline (Missouri St. Louis) followed with a base hit of his own.

Nicky Moretto (Allen CC) increased the lead to 6-2 with a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. William Lehman (Hillsdale) scored the final run on a balk. 

Lehman, Justin Dawkins (North Greenville), and Max Guenther (Moberly Area CC) all hit doubles. Leadoff batter Matthew Perez (Catawba Valley CC) scored twice. 

Four pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts. Cole Payne (Southern Maine CC) started and struck out four batters in three innings. 

Brady McFarland (Transylvania) had five strikeouts in his three innings, while Caleb Cloninger (Cleveland CC) earned the win by pitching two hitless innings with four strikeouts. 

Cole Barnes (UNC Greensboro/Ashley) retired the side in order in the ninth.

Shallotte (0-2, 0-2) tied the score in the fifth inning when Dylan Dotson (Bluefield) led off with a single and later crossed the plate on a passed ball.

Dillon Bullard (Mount Olive) had an RBI single in the first inning. 

Cape Fear Ghost Crabs 12, Mid-State Melon Mashers 5

The Ghost Grabs rolled to their third victory in as many days behind a strong performance at the plate from third baseman Coleman Cross (West Virginia Wesleyan/Ashley) 

The local product went 3-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, and two runs scored. 

Trey Pierce (Brunswick CC/WCA) singled, stole three bases, and scored three times from the leadoff spot. Drew Beard (Lenoir-Rhyne) finished 1-for-3 with two walks, two RBI, and two runs. 

Will Jones (WCA) and Julian King both crossed the plate twice. 

Cape Fear (3-0, 2-0 Coastal Division) scored at least one run in each of its first trips to the plate. 

Pierce led off the bottom of the first inning with a base hit up the middle. After stealing second base, he scored on a single from Beard. 

An error on the play allowed Beard to advance all the way to third base. Kayden Leck (Owens CC) followed with an RBI groundout. 

Dylan Stacks (North Brunswick) made it 4-1 with a two-out single in the third inning that scored Pierce. 

The Ghost Crabs worked five walks in a three-run fifth inning that all but sealed the victory. 

Starting pitcher Kyle Wade (Brunswick CC) allowed one run on three hits with four strikeouts in three innings. Max Swart ( Immaculata) threw three scoreless innings with three strikeouts to earn the win.
