Oak Island Loggerheads 11, Laurinburg Highland Hooligans 2
The Loggerheads collected a season-high 12 hits and drew 11 walks to cruise on the road.
Designated hitter Ayden Cline (Missouri St. Louis) went 2-for-3 with a walk, triple, three stolen bases, one RBI, and two runs scored.
Local product Banks Hartman (N.C. Wesleyan/South Brunswick) also had a strong night at the plate by going 2-for-2 with three walks, one RBI, and one run.
Justin Dawkins (North Greenville, S.C.) and Max Guenther (Moberly Area CC, Mo.) had two hits apiece.
Four Oak Island (5-3, 5-3 Coastal Division) pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts. Starter Wyatt Davis (Lenoir-Rhyne) allowed one hit and recorded four strikeouts in four innings.
Bhraedon Meredith (King, Tenn.) struck out the side in the eighth and ninth innings.
The Loggerheads scored twice in the top of the second inning. John Wirt (Hampden-Sydney, Va.) led off with a walk and raced all the way around on Cline’s triple to center field.
Hartman later delivered an RBI single.
A four-run fourth inning featured run-scoring singles from Dawkins and William & Mary commit Ryan Riojas (Montgomery Bell Academy, Tenn.). An error with two outs allowed two more runners to cross the plate.
Dawkins increased the lead to 9-0 an inning later with a two-run triple.

A battle between the top two teams in the Coastal Division went to the still-unbeaten Bogeys, who scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning.
A sacrifice fly in the first inning, as well as an RBI single from Chris Johnson (Bluefield, Va.) in the third, gave Sandhills (7-0, 6-0) a 2-0 lead.
Cape Fear (7-3, 5-2) evened the score in the bottom of the third inning. Quinlan Keefe (Manhattan, N.Y.) singled and moved to third base on another base hit from Julian King. Both players scored on a two-out double from Trey Pierce (Brunswick CC/WCA).
Drew Beard (Lenoir-Rhyne) worked a walk in the fourth inning and later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from Dylan Stacks (North Brunswick), who was robbed of a home run.
The Ghost Crabs loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning, but managed only one run on an infield single from Gavin Marceric (Tiffin, Ohio).
Stranding the bases loaded in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings proved costly for Cape Fear.
The visitors regained the lead in the top of the eighth on a ground-rule double followed by a wild pitch that allowed a pair of runners to score.
Cape Fear got a nice outing from relief pitcher Sean Smith (UNC Pembroke/New Hanover), who tossed three shutout innings.
