A thrilling night of action at the Carolina Coast Conference Swimming Championship featured several record-breaking performances.
In the end, the Ashley boys and Hoggard girls repeated as conference champions. Unlike a season ago, both teams secured their titles by performing at a high level in the pool.
The 2025 meet was canceled and ultimately decided by dual team strength ratings.
Ashley opened strong by winning the 200 medley relay and never slowed down en route to 343 points. South Brunswick (311) narrowly edged Hoggard (310) for second place.
The girls meet came down to the final event with Hoggard claiming its 11th consecutive title by scoring 317 points. Ashley (313) and Topsail (308) followed closely behind.
Boys Recap
Seniors Ryker Eder and Bryson Edwards won all four of their events to lead the way for the Screaming Eagles.
Both of Eder’s wins came narrowly. He completed the 100 butterfly in 51.53 to hold off Hoggard’s Hance Mayo (51.81). In the 100 breaststroke, Eder had a time of 59.00 to beat Hoggard’s Behrett Petroff by .39 seconds.
Edwards also had a challenge in the 200 IM. He touched the wall in 1:58.60, which was slightly ahead of South Brunswick standout freshman Michael Best (1:58.98). Edwards’ other first-place finish came in the 100 backstroke (52.55).
Both swimmers were joined by Avery Butner and Elijah Setzer on the 200 medley relay (1:38.96) and 200 freestyle relay (1:03.61).
Butner captured the 100 freestyle in 48.61.
A win in the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay helped South Brunswick overtake Hoggard for second place. The team of Best, Jakob Boehmer, Oliver Boehmer, and Evan Sevast finished with a Brunswick County record time of 3:25.87.
Best cruised in the 500 freestyle (4:57.20).
Sevast set a new county record in the 100 freestyle (second place in 49.34), while Oliver Boehmer tied Best’s record in the 100 backstroke (fourth place in 57.76).
The other individual victories came from Petroff (50 freestyle in 21.97) and Laney’s Will House (200 freestyle in 1:48.66).
