BOYS SOCCER

No. 2 Ashley 1, No. 4 Laney 1

The match was stopped early in overtime after Ashley’s Cam Moore suffered a serious leg injury. 

Laney (11-1-1, 1-0-1 Carolina Coast) led 1-0 at halftime thanks to a goal from Bishop Babcock-Giles. The assist came from Alvaro Hernandez Rodriguez.

Goalkeeper Francisco Arevalo Pineda made six saves.  

Isaiah McDonald found the back of the net in the second half off an assist from Cameron Berry to help Ashley (7-1-3, 1-0-1 Carolina Coast) even the score. 

The Buccaneers welcome Topsail for a 6 p.m. match Tuesday. A match at New Hanover on Thursday night at 6 awaits the Screaming Eagles. 

No. 1 Hoggard 6, No. 8 West Brunswick 0

Three goals in each half lifted the Vikings to a comfortable road win. 

Sawyer Ingham scored twice. Hoggard (8-1-1, 1-0 Carolina Coast) also got one goal and one assist from Harrison Dyer, Nash Gould and James Mclean.

Jameson Zapple put home the other goal, while Adler Sauer had an assist.  

Both teams play at home Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Vikings welcome New Hanover, while West Brunswick (6-4, 0-2) hosts North Brunswick. 

No. 5 Topsail 4, No. 12 North Brunswick 0

Junior Jax Lawrence scored once and handed out a pair of assists for the victorious Pirates.

Timmy Hiles had one goal and one assist, while Achy Boutis and Ryan Dollman put home the other two goals. Nathan Cager had one assist.

Topsail (7-4-2, 1-1 Carolina Coast) goalkeeper Nico Wentworth made one save to preserve the shutout. 

The Pirates visit Laney at 6 p.m. Tuesday. North Brunswick (7-6-1, 0-2) plays at West Brunswick on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

No. 6 Cape Fear Academy 7, Parrott Academy 0

Ethan Gatt’s goal in the 17th minute off an assist from Jace Williams proved to be the game-winner as the Hurricanes bounced back nicely from Tuesday’s defeat. 

Vance Mino recorded a hat trick, while Curren Gaskill finished with two goals and one assist. 

CFA’s (6-5-1, 4-1 CPIC) other goal came off the foot of Trey Ragan.

Gatt, Luke Desmond and Rowan Forkin all had one assist. Goalkeeper Jackson Renton saved the lone shot he faced to earn the clean sheet. 

Next up is a home match against South Brunswick at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

John Paul II 1, No. 7 Coastal Christian 0

The Centurions saw their seven-match winning streak come to a close. 

Goalkeeper Will Santiello finished with four saves. 

Coastal Christian (9-4, 3-1 CPIC) visits Cape Fear Academy on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Sophomore Libby Harrington put down a team-high 10 kills, while Kate Austin hit .375 with seven kills and a pair of blocks for the victorious Buccaneers. 

Ansleigh Austin and Grace Johnson also had seven assists apiece. Libero Natalie Dickerson came up with 14 digs and served three aces. 

Laney (5-8, 4-3 Carolina Coast) got 20 assists and nine digs from Kinsley Nagle as well as 17 assists and five digs from Abbey Hendren. 

The Buccaneers host Ashley on Tuesday at 6 p.m. West Brunswick (3-11, 0-7) visits Hoggard at 6 p.m. Tuesday. 

No. 2 Topsail 3, No. 3 Ashley 0

The Pirates remained in sole possession of second place in the Carolina Coast Conference thanks to a road sweep.

Ava O’Reilly led all players with 15 kills. She chipped in seven digs. 

Sarah Cutler put down 11 kills to go along with 14 digs, while Hannah Losey also had a double-double with 27 assists and 19 digs. 

Topsail (9-4, 6-1 Carolina Coast) got 18 digs from libero Audrey Johnson. 

Ashley (11-7, 4-3) middle Marley Burk hit .529 with 10 kills and five blocks. Addyson Barberich added 12 kills, while Jessie Hill finished with 10.

Setter Sarah Brannin recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs. 

Next up for the Pirates is a home match against North Brunswick on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Screaming Eagles visit Laney at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

No. 7 Coastal Christian 3, John Paul II

A double-double of 11 kills, 10 digs and three aces from freshman outside hitter Leighton Grant helped the Centurions cruise at home. 

Coastal Christian (10-9, 3-1 CPIC) also got six digs and five aces from Paige Moyer. 

A match at Cape Fear Academy on Monday at 4:30 p.m. awaits the Centurions.

A back-and-forth contest didn’t go in favor of the Hurricanes, who suffered their first conference loss of the season. 

Addie Fikry had a big night by hitting .405 with 17 kills and eight digs. Setter Lila Hammer handed out 50 assists to go along with 12 digs. 

CFA (9-2, 2-1 CPIC) also got 12 kills and 13 digs from Frankie Osborne. Nevaeh Sanders put down seven kills, while Edie Brooke Bartlett and Katherine Zander both finished with six. 

The Hurricanes will look to bounce back when they host Coastal Christian at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Topsail’s Grayson Dill outsprinted teammate Owen Reece to the finish line to secure his second victory of the season.

Dill had a time of 17:43.20, while Reece finished in 17:43.31. 

The Pirates had three other runners finish inside the top 10 to cruise to the team win with 19 points. Orin Gray was third (18:19.21), Chase Crucitti placed fourth (18:30.54), and Riley Souza was ninth (19:33.31).

Rounding out the top five was Bryson Hollis of West Brunswick, who had a time of 18:50.72.

The top six finishers came from Topsail, including winner Molly Corcoran. 

The sophomore completed the course in 21:20.70. Her next closest competitor was teammate Sophia Norris, who had a time of 21:17.73.

Topsail scored 15 points to roll to the team victory. The Pirates’ other top-10 finishes came from Payleigh Newbill (third in 22:22.95), Abigail Roberts (fourth in 22:24.49), Abigail O’Reilly (fifth in 22:34.35), Khloe Simmons (sixth in 22:44.85), and Elizabeth Schumacher (ninth in 22:51.75).

Cape Fear Academy 8, Parrott Academy 1

After sweeping doubles, the Hurricanes easily won five of the six singles matches. 

The top two doubles teams – Taylor Garriott/Rynley Elvington (No. 1) and Gunnie Beacham/Alex Zakszeski (No. 2) – had 8-2 wins. 

Olivia Hollingsworth and Ava Mason picked up an 8-5 victory at No. 3. 

CFA’s (9-2, 3-0 CPIC) singles points came from Zakszeski (6-2, 6-3 at No. 2), Elvington (6-0, 6-1 at No. 3), Beacham (6-0, 6-1 at No. 4), Hollingsworth (6-3, 6-2 at No. 5) and Claire Furmidge (6-1, 6-1 at No. 6).

The Hurricanes welcome Coastal Christian at 4 p.m. Monday.

Topsail 7, Ashley 2

Seniors Cayden Persichetti and Reed Garofano both had 6-0, 6-0 singles victories at the top two singles spots before teaming up for an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles. 

Topsail’s (5-4, 4-4 Carolina Coast) other singles points came from Cina Husto (6-0, 6-1 at No. 3), Avery Graham (6-4, 6-2 at No. 4) and Reese Plaford (7-6, 6-3 at No. 5). 

Hustin and Graham dropped only three games at No. 2 doubles. 

Ashley (4-8, 3-6) got victories at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. 

The Pirates host North Brunswick at 4 p.m. Tuesday, while the Screaming Eagles visit South Brunswick on Monday at 4 p.m.

South Brunswick 9, Fairmont 0

The Cougars cruised in singles and then dropped only two games in doubles.

Carys Subach had the lone 8-0 singles victory. Phoebe Cumbee (No. 2), Opal Grey Boehmer (No. 3), Lana Harden (No. 4) and Journey Harden (No. 6) had identical 8-1 scores. 

Trinity Harden completed the sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 5. 

All three of South Brunswick’s (8-2, 5-0 Southeastern) doubles teams prevailed – Subach/Cumbee (8-0 at No. 1), Boehmer/Lana Harden (8-2 at No. 2) and Trinity Harden/Kate Harrington (8-0 at No. 3). 

Next up is a home match against Ashley on Monday at 4 p.m.
