BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
NCISAA 3A State Championship
at McAlipine Park in Charlotte (Friday)
Coastal Christian senior Corban Cazier capped his stellar career with a state title by crossing the finish line in 15:42.60.
It was his fourth consecutive top-five finish at the state meet. Cazier was fifth as a freshman, third as a sophomore, and the runner-up a season ago.
Grant Childress of Calvary Baptist finished second with a time of 15:48.20.
The Centurions were third as a team with 98 points behind only Grace Christian (84) and Calvary Day (85).
Grayson Brazik was seventh (16:30.20) and Cole Williamson finished 12th (16:58.40). The other two counting scores came from Trey Coble (24th in 17:47.80) and Nykko Kraemer (54th in 18:54.60).
Cape Fear Academy teammates Owen Holt (25th in 17:48.60) and Christian Miller (35th in 18:13.20) had strong performances to help the Hurricanes finish ninth out of 25 teams.
NCHSAA 8A East Regional
at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary
Hoggard junior Riley Kiziah earned the narrowest of victories by finishing in 15:13.34, which was .01 seconds faster than Evan Rounds of Panther Creek.
Teammate Aedon Schroeder followed behind to finish third in 15:16.03.
Hoggard scored 74 points to secure a runner-up finish behind Broughton (45).
The other counting scores came from Gabriel Archibald (17th in 15:40.03), Joel Aiken (26th in 15:55.68) and Ralph Pfeil (27th in 15:59.91).
Laney’s top performance came from George Adams, who placed 45th out of 110 runners with a time of 16:27.73.
NCHSAA 7A East Regional
at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary
Topsail teammates Grayson Dill and Owen Reece were the first two runners to cross the finish line.
Dill had a time of 15:13.21, with Reece not far behind in 15:19.57.
The Pirates finished as the team runner-up with 73 points, trailing only Cardinal Gibbons (33).
Chase Crucitti (16th in 17:04.79), Riley Souza (26th in 17:30.51) and Brennan Johnson (28th in 17:34.30) also had strong performances.
New Hanover’s 157 points were good enough for fourth place out of 18 teams. Michael Enriquez (fifth in 16:02.62), Miles Fitzgerald (30th in 17:36.16) and Bryan Blair (34th in 17:42.51) were the top finishers.
Colten Wescoe of Ashley was 19th out of 126 competitors with a time of 17:09.61.
NCHSAA 6A Regional
at Red Oak Middle School in Rocky Mount (Friday)
Senior Bryson Hollis of West Brunswick was 18th out of 108 runners with a time of 18:24.00.
NCHSAA 5A East Regional
at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary
South Brunswick had five of the 80 runners, with the top finish coming from freshman Ashnaan Isaacson (49th in 20:53.37).
NCHSAA 3A East Regional
at Lenoir County Fairgrounds in Kinston (Friday)
Trask finished fourth with 112 points by placing two runners inside the top 20.
Elber Lopez Paz was 18th with a time of 18:50.05. He was followed by teammate Sawyer Davis in 18:53.32.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
NCISAA 3A State Championship
at McAlipine Park in Charlotte (Friday)
Cape Fear Academy had three runners finish inside the top 10 to earn a runner-up finish with 79 points.
Grace Christian claimed the title by scoring 63 points. Coastal Christian was sixth out of 21 teams with a score of 212.
Leading the way for the Hurricanes was senior Kylie Petrides, whose time of 19:07.40 was good enough for second place. She trailed only Anna Barrett of Asheville Christian, who crossed the finish line in 18:57.10.
Emma Gibbs placed seventh in 20:05.30, while Lulu Wells was 10th in 20:34.40.
CFA also counted scores from Vivian Luckman (27th in 21:24.80) and Maura Stickle (43rd in 22:16.90).
Junior Miranda Short of Coastal Christian finished ninth with a time of 20:23.30.
NCHSAA 8A East Regional
at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary
Hoggard finished in third place with a team score of 117, which trailed only Green Level (74) and Broughton (85).
Junior Mia Medlin’s time of 18:21.62 was good enough for fifth.
Valentina Butler (23rd in 19:20.03), Alice Jones (28th in 19:25.46), Emily Singer (30t in 19:26.75) and Vella Meadows (31st in 19:27.04) also had counting scores.
Laney got a 26th-place finish from Kendall Harrell (19:23.06).
NCHSAA 7A East Regional
at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary
For the first time in program history, Ashley earned a runner-up finish by scoring 81 points.
Powerhouse Cardinal Gibbons won with 16 points. Topsail (94) was third, while New Hanover (122) placed fourth.
Eleven area runners finished inside the top 25. Leading the way were Topsail’s Molly Corcoran (fifth in 18:59.61), New Hanover’s Emma Rogers (seventh in 19:17.43) and Ashley’s Lexi George (eighth in 19:35.04).
The other counting scores for the Screaming Eagles came from Sadie Bass (11th in 19:53.48), Alison Gaston (19th in 20:40.45), Hayley Ervin (22nd in 20:57.05) and Riley Warner (24th in 21:12.40).
Topsail got strong runs from Payleigh Newbill (17th in 20:28.78), Abigail Roberts (18th in 20:29.00) and Sophia Norris (23rd in 20:57.57).
New Hanover’s Chloe Davis finished 13th with a time of 19:59.92.
NCHSAA 6A East Regional
at Red Oak Middle School in Rocky Mount (Friday)
West Brunswick’s top performance came from Abbi Davis, who had a time of 23:37.00 to finish 33rd out of 103 participants.
NCHSAA 5A East Regional
at WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary
Kennedy Gordon of South Brunswick completed the course in 21:22.25 to finish 11th in the field of 74.
NCHSAA 3A East Regional

By placing five runners inside the top 20, Trask was able to earn a runner-up finish.
The Titans scored 77 points, which was 60 behind winner Wake Prep Academy.
Sophia Gough was 11th in 23:54.93, while Molly Jayne finished 15th in 24:12.28.
The other counting scores came from Ana Cruz (17th in 24:22.95), Nayeli Ramirez (18th in 24:40.04) and Adilene Cruz Lopez (20th in 24:52.35).
GIRLS TENNIS
NCHSAA State Championship
at Millbrook Exchange Park in Raleigh (Friday)
Hoggard freshman Braelyn Roberson reached the singles semifinal in 8A before suffering a 6-2, 6-3 loss to eventual champion Devin Gilroy of Hough.
Roberson opened with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Northwest Guilford’s Valeria Paredes-Whalen.
In 7A, a pair of local doubles teams fell in the opening round.
New Hanover’s Laynie Fortun/Lila Brown suffered a 7-6(3), 7-5 defeat to Page’s Bintu Kamara/Ashby Gansman, while Topsail’s Cayden Perschetti/Reed Garofano fell by a score of 6-1, 6-4 against Sukie Wang/Gianna Blacutt of Grimsley.
