COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

BASEBALL
No. 3 South Brunswick 9, No. 8 North Brunswick 4
After falling behind 4-0 after three innings, the Cougars scored nine unanswered runs to secure a home victory.
The big hit was a grand slam from Harrison Mears in the sixth inning that gave South Brunswick (6-3) an 8-4 lead.
Liam Edmonds was outstanding on the mound and at the plate. He allowed three earned runs with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. The sophomore also finished 2-for-4.
Gunnar Marsh went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the fourth inning that got the Cougars on the board.
Grady Sotriffer had an RBI single in the fifth and then evened the score by reaching on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded right before Mears belted his grand slam.
Sid Dale and Gavin Templeman both crossed the plate twice.
North Brunswick (5-5) got a two-run home run from Ryan Grisso in the third inning to increase its lead to 4-0. Jonah Campbell went 2-for-4 from the leadoff spot.
Both teams will be back in action on Friday. South Brunswick hosts Red Springs at 6 p.m., while the Scorpions welcome Hoggard at 6:30 p.m.
No. 12 Pender 20, Union 1 (3 innings)
The Patriots exploded for 13 runs in the first inning and finished with 16 hits to win a battle between winless teams.
Sean Cummings had a big day at the plate by going 4-for-4 with a double, triple, three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs scored.
Blake Howell went 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs, while Braxton Wells was 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and three runs.
Kimon Moore and Andrew Robinson each had two hits and scored three times.
Pitchers Peyton Tant and Ricky Armstrong combined on a two-hitter with six strikeouts.
Pender (1-9) plays at SW Onslow on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
SOFTBALL
No. 1 Topsail 12, East Columbus 1 (5 innings)
An eight-run fifth inning that featured RBI doubles from Brooklyn Beatty and Riley Trimble helped the Pirates cruise at home in a nonconference game.
Back-to-back doubles from Trimble and Mae Rimel in the top of the first inning gave Topsail (10-2) a quick 2-0 lead.
Trimble finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. Brooklyn Beatty, Easton J’Anthony, and Madyson Turlington all crossed the plate twice.
Addison Ash pitched a complete game, scattering five hits and striking out two batters. The run she allowed was unearned.
The Pirates travel to North Duplin on Friday at 5 p.m.
East Duplin 4, No. 5 North Brunswick 2
The Scorpions were held scoreless until the bottom of the seventh inning when Takyra Boyd hit a two-run home run.
North Brunswick had runners on second and third bases with two outs, but both were stranded as the game ended on an infield pop-up.
Sophia Garst led the way offensively with a pair of hits.
Next up is a home game against Hoggard on Friday night at 6:30.
Loris (S.C.) 4, No. 3 South Brunswick 3
Savana Burgess and Gracin Johnson each hit a double, but the Cougars weren’t able to avenge an earlier-season loss.
Johnson led off the bottom of the second inning with a walk before stealing a pair of bases and scoring on a squeeze bunt from Shea Brown.
South Brunswick (8-4) cut the deficit to 3-2 on Johnson’s RBI double in the fourth. A sacrifice fly from Gracie Yopp an inning later tied the score, but Loris regained the lead by scoring a run in the sixth.
The Cougars host Red Springs at 6 p.m. Friday.

BOYS TENNIS
Southeastern Homeschool 6, Durham Academy 3
The Cardinals secured a pair of doubles points and then won four of the six singles matches to prevail on the road.
Daniel Boehling and Klaus Johnson earned a 9-8(7) win at No. 1 doubles, while Calvin Bebb and Eli Springer had a score of 8-5 at No. 2.
Boehling won 6-2, 7-6(3) at No. 2, Springer had a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory at No. 4, and Bebb prevailed by a score of 7-6(4), 6-3 at No. 5.
Southeastern Homeschool’s (4-1) other singles point came from No. 1 player Haddon Bebb (6-1, 6-4).
Johnson (No. 3) and Caleb Yandle (No. 6) fought hard but fell in third-set tiebreakers.
The Cardinals host Waccamaw, S.C. on Monday at 4 p.m.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Ashley 70, Laney 51, North Brunswick 35
The Screaming Eagles secured the meet win by taking three of four relays and securing five individual victories.
Leading the way was Colten Wescoe, who crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter run (2:10.80) and 1,600 (4:51.75).
Charles Boykin ran away from his competitors in the 400 (52.97). Jahbari Woodhouse won the 300 hurdles (43.10) and was the runner-up in the 110 distance.
The other victory came in high jump, where Zamier Williams cleared 5-6.
Laney’s Jeremiah Brown captured long jump (20-8) and pole vault (9-6). Teammates Fisher Jones (3,200 in 10:38.44), Joaquin Soto (110 hurdles in 16.43), and Jaiden Jones (37-2 in triple jump) were also victorious.
Standout sprinter Reade Frink of North Brunswick easily won the 100 (10.86) and 200 (22.25).

Senior standout Saydee Harper secured three individual victories to help Laney cruise to a 32-point meet win over host Ashley.
Harper easily won the 100-meter hurdles (16.41) and 300-meter hurdles (46.71). She also had a distance of 32-9 in the triple jump.
Teammates Kalaia Peters (400 in 1:02.35), Kendall Harrell (3,200 in 11:15.86), Qamarah McKoy (17-4 in long jump), and Addalyn Lauber (7-6 in pole vault) were also victorious.
The Buccaneers captured three of four relays.
Ashley got wins from Sadie Bass (800 in 2:28.21), Alexis George (1,600 in 5:23.30), and Sadie Ingram (4-6 in high jump).
North Brunswick sprinter Zoey Matthews crossed the finish line first in the 100 (12.62) and 200 (26.44).
