Wins from Klaus Johnson and Calvin Bebb kept the Cardinals alive in a match that was suspended and will be concluded when the teams meet in Myrtle Beach on April 2.
Play didn’t begin until 5:30 p.m., and the high-quality singles competition went several hours. With the visiting Seahawks needing to head home, doubles wasn’t contested.
Johnson prevailed by a score of 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3, while Bebb earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5.
Southeastern Homeschool suffered a pair of heartbreaking three-set losses – Haddon Bebb (5-7, 4-6, 10-5 at No. 1) and Daniel Boehling (6-4, 0-6, 12-10 at No. 2).
The Cardinals travel to Durham Academy for a 4:30 p.m. match Wednesday.
Broughton 7, Hoggard 2
Junior Ethan Ten Brink battled back from a set down to secure the Vikings’ lone singles point.
Ten Brink prevailed by a score of 4-6, 6-0, 10-5 at the No. 1 position.
Hoggard (6-4) also got an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles from Jake Barrow and Thomas Trimpey-Warhaftig.
Next up is a match at Enloe on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
GIRLS SOCCER
No. 5 Laney 2, No. 3 Topsail 1
Freshman Presley Ormsby scored with 10 seconds remaining to give the Buccaneers a thrilling road victory.
Laney (4-3, 2-1 Carolina Coast) earned a corner kick, which was quickly taken by Jasmine Hicks. Ormsby started her run from the top of the box and was able to get her head on the ball and keep it under the crossbar.
Goalkeeper Caeli Sullivan had an excellent performance with eight saves.
The Buccaneers tied the score in the 58th minute, and just before the match went into a 30-minute lightning delay.
Hicks was able to keep a long throw-in from going over the end line. She made several great moves to keep control of the ball and eventually found Lauber in front of the goal for a tap-in.
Topsail (5-2-2-, 2-1) struck first when Riley Needham chased down a loose ball, split a pair of defenders, and blasted a shot into the back of the net just under two minutes into the second half.
Both teams play their next match at Hoggard. The Buccaneers make the short trip on Monday at 6 p.m., while the Pirates play at Scott Braswell Stadium on Thursday night at 6.
No. 1 Hoggard 9, No. 9 New Hanover 0
Airlie Altman and Elise Hunneyman both finished with two goals and one assist to lead the Vikings to their 14th consecutive victory in the series.
The last 12 have come in shutout fashion.
Senior Mia Neuwirth chipped in one goal and three assists, while freshman Sophia Kamaris scored once and handed out a pair of assists.
Hoggard (4-1-1, 2-0 Carolina Coast) also got one goal and one assist from Sophie Scott.
The other goals came from Brielle Archer and Ava Gregorio. Goalkeeper Kylah Long earned the clean sheet.
A home game against Topsail on Thursday at 6 p.m. awaits the Vikings. New Hanover (3-4, 0-2) visits Northside-Jacksonville at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
No. 4 Ashley 2, D.H. Conley 0
The Screaming Eagles secured a nonconference home victory thanks to goals from McKenna Joyner and Selah Wissman.
It was the second shutout of the season for Ashley (7-1), which hosts North Brunswick on Friday at 6 p.m.

BOYS GOLF

at Kinston Country Club (Par 71)
The Hurricanes shot a 9-over-par 293 to cruise past the competition.
Leading the way was Spencer Mills, who was the runner-up after carding a 1-under 70. He made three of his four birdies on the back nine.
Davis Cherry shot 73, while CFA also counted a pair of 75s from Ryan Korman and Bryan Wells. The six players in the starting lineup combined to make 15 birdies.
Coastal Christian’s Chet Kight was the medalist with a stellar 2-under 69 that featured five birdies.
The Centurions’ other counting scores came from Joel Marin (90), Mason Hartmann (96), and Thomas Haines (104).
SOFTBALL
No. 10 Wilmington Christian Academy 4, Lejeune 3
A pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning gave the Patriots their first-ever victory over a public school.
Lejeune scored an unearned run in the top of the frame to grab a short-lived 3-2 lead.
A double from Lily Marella allowed Taylor Pierce to score the tying run. With two outs, Marella stole third base and then crossed the plate on a passed ball.
WCA (2-1) pitcher Amelia Naylor retired the side in order in the seventh inning. She scattered four hits and recorded five strikeouts in a complete game. All three runs she allowed were unearned.
Marella finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Naylor, Peyton Hedge, Lydia Naylor, and Arden Taylor all finished with one hit.
The Patriots play at Ashley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Dixon 10, No. 5 North Brunswick 0
The Scorpions got two hits apiece from Emilee Camacho, Aaliyah Shaw, and Jada Thomas in the road defeat.
A home match against East Duplin at 6 p.m. Wednesday is next on the schedule for North Brunswick (5-4).
BASEBALL
Cape Fear Christian Academy 9, No. 13 Coastal Christian 8
Sophomore catcher Ty Forrester went 3-for-4 with two RBI, but the Centurions allowed three runs in the top of the seventh inning to fall at home.
Mason King and Aaden Vick both finished 2-for-3 with an RBI. Vick crossed the plate three times, while leadoff batter Carver Cole scored twice.
Coastal Christian (1-7) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to grab an 8-6 lead. King led off the seventh with a triple, but was stranded.
The Centurions visit Wilmington Christian Academy on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
BOYS LACROSSE
Jacksonville 18, New Hanover 9
The Wildcats suffered a road loss despite getting a team-high four goals from Reid Finnerty.
Ethan Tatum added two goals and two assists, while Nolan Smyth chipped in one goal and one assist.
Conlan Kane and Bennett Ward also found the back of the net. John King handed out a pair of assists.
New Hanover (1-6) welcomes Hoggard at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
