2026 Boys Basketball Co-Player of the Year: Hunter McGrath
Now that the winter sports season has come to a close, it’s time to reveal the All-Coastal Preps teams. Over the past few days, you’ve gotten to know more about the players of the year while also seeing who made first and second team in swimming & diving, wrestling, and basketball.
The Coastal Preps Boys Basketball Co-Player of the Year is junior Hunter McGrath from Hoggard
Hunter’s Accomplishments
Known early in his career as primarily just a shooter, Hunter McGrath has worked hard to develop the other parts of his game.
All the hours in the gym paid off in a big way this season, as he helped Hoggard finish 23-7 and advance to the state championship game for just the second time.
McGrath averaged a team-best 16.6 points as well as 3.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 2.6 steals.
He shot 47 percent from the field (176 of 372), 34 percent from 3-point range (54 of 160), and 72 percent from the free throw line (92 of 127).
Late in the season, McGrath became the fifth player in program history to surpass 1,000 points. He is on pace to break the record currently held by Joey Stukes (1,304).
McGrath opened the season with a career-high 27 points against West Bladen. He matched that number in the 8A State Championship game against West Charlotte.
During four playoff games, McGrath averaged 20.5 points.
