After dropping the first two matchups of the season, the Ghost Crabs finally took down the league leaders on a walk-off double from Quinlan Keefe (Manhattan, N.Y.).
Cape Fear (14-5, 12-4 Coastal Division) trailed 5-0 before getting on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning on a double from Drew Beard (Lenoir-Rhyne) that allowed Gavin Marceric (Tiffin, Ohio) to score from first base following his base hit.
Ryan Seagroves (Brunswick CC) singled home Will Jones (WCA) in the sixth inning. An error on the same play allowed Marceric to score and cut the deficit to 5-3.
The score remained the same until the ninth. Marceric got the rally started with a seven-pitch walk. Beard and Seagroves singled to load the bases with no outs.
Following a strikeout, Keefe came through with his biggest hit of the summer. His line drive down the left field line allowed all three runners to touch home plate.
Beard, Marceric, and Seagroves all finished with a pair of hits.
