Sophomore quarterback Caroline Smist finished with 225 total yards and three touchdowns in another dominant victory for the Screaming Eagles (6-0, 5-0 Carolina Coast). 

Smist finished 18 of 22 for 153 yards and a pair of TDs. She carried the ball 10 times for 72 yards and another score. 

Her touchdown passes went to Chloe Laverty (12 yards) and Mariah Brown (1 yard). Center Carsyn Fox had a team-high seven catches for 48 yards. 

Freshman Malia Mehling tossed a 6-yard touchdown to Elin Bentley. 

Hoggard’s lone touchdown came on a 75-yard pass from Ellie Gillespie to Bethany Bowen. 

Gillespie threw for 154 yards, while Bowen finished with five catches for 98 yards. 

North Brunswick 13, Hoggard 7

A 13-yard touchdown pass from Laya Wizman to Serenity Mork with 3:30 remaining in the game lifted the Scorpions to a comeback victory.

North Brunswick (3-2, 3-2 Carolina Coast) led 6-0 at halftime thanks to a short TD run from Virginia Watkins. 

A 50-yard pass from Ellie Gillespie to Reagan Jones, followed by a successful one-point conversion, put Hoggard (2-3, 2-3) on top momentarily. 

The Scorpions finished with 265 yards of offense. Wizman was 24 of 35 for 190 yards.

Her favorite target was Nevaeh Ngo, who hauled in 11 catches for 78 yards. Sophomore Rayjanae Byrd had 12 carries for 68 yards. She also came up with an interception on the first possession of the game.

Gillespie went 21-for-36 for 207 yards.

GIRLS TENNIS

Hoggard 9, Ashley 0

The Vikings moved closer to securing a second consecutive Carolina Coast Conference title by rolling to their ninth sweep of the season. 

None of the seven players who took the court for Hoggard (11-1, 9-0) dropped a game. 

The 6-0, 6-0 singles wins came from Braelyn Roberson (No. 1), Zannah Roberson (No. 2), Audrey Sica (No. 3), Kenzie Le (No. 4), Libby Williamson (No. 5), and Allie Sauer (No. 6). 

All three doubles scores were 8-0. The teams were Zannah Roberson/Sica (No. 1), Braelyn Roberson/Le (No. 2), and Sauer/Emmy Brookshire (No. 3). 

The Vikings host West Brunswick on Tuesday at 4 p.m. Ashley (5-6, 5-5) visits Topsail for a 4 p.m. match on Thursday. 

BOYS SOCCER

No. 9 Trask 3, South Lenoir 0

Sophomore Edwin Cruz scored once and dished out an assist in the home win. 

Trask (8-3-4, 1-0 East Central) also got one goal apiece from Judah Rico and Andrew Rollings. 

Next up is a game at East Duplin on Monday night at 6.

The Patriots remained winless in East Central Conference play despite getting 22 digs and two aces from Eden Gurganus. 

Victoria Wells chipped in three kills and four blocks. 

Pender (7-9, 0-4) hosts rival Trask on Thursday at 6 p.m.
