Area athletes shine at East-West All-Star Games

The annual N.C. Coaches Association East-West All-Star basketball and soccer games took place this week, and a handful of recent area graduates participated. 

On Monday night, a pair of reigning Coastal Preps Basketball Players of the Year from Hoggard were on the floor at the Novant Health Fieldhouse in Greensboro. 

Will Seward recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds while playing a game-high 22 minutes, but the East team suffered a 102-101 defeat on a last-second 3-pointer from Reidsville’s Dionte Neal. 

Seward went 9 of 12 from the field and connected on 2 of his 3 attempts from both the free throw line and 3-point range. 

In the girls game, Hoggard’s Tristan Shivers scored eight points and grabbed three rebounds in 22 minutes to help the East team secure an 85-82 victory. 

Joining her on the roster was Topsail’s Charley Moore, who also finished with eight points in her 15 minutes of action.

The soccer games were played Tuesday night at Truist Point in High Point. 

Hoggard defender Aubrie Rogers was the lone area participant in the girls contest. She played all 80 minutes in a dominant 6-1 win for the East.

The boys East team was coached by Hoggard’s Dwight Findlay and featured seven area players.

Hoggard’s Adler Sauer scored an unassisted goal in the 44th minute to even the score at 1-1, but the West answered with two unanswered goals to win 3-1. 

The only East participant to play the entire 80 minutes was Laney defender Carson Swain. His high school teammate, Henry Tidey, had a team-high three shots in 75 minutes. 

Hoggard goalkeeper Dallas Story started and played 46 minutes. Ashley’s participants were Cameron Berry (43 minutes) and Clark Marriott (65 minutes), while Topsail’s Achy Boutis was on the field for 55 minutes.
