COASTAL PREPS THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

BOYS BASKETBALL

No. 9 Wilmington Christian Academy 74, No. 14 Southeastern Homeschool 39

Sophomore guards Trent Davies and Parker Brown combined for 40 points, and the Patriots picked up their third straight victory of at least 35 points.  

Davies led all players with 21 points to go along with five rebounds, four steals, three blocks, and two assists.  

Brown added 19 points and five rebounds. 

WCA (13-4) built a 23-8 lead after the first quarter and increased it to 44-17 at halftime. 

Jordan Fillyaw, Ryan McConekey, and Kingston Rupert all chipped in eight points. The Patriots shot 51 percent from the field by making 29 of 57 shots. 

Southeastern Homeschool’s (10-10) top performances came from Max Brutus (14 points) and Jackson Long (13 points)

Both teams have road games on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots visit Southeastern Christian Academy, while the Cardinals travel to New Life Camp.

No. 5 West Brunswick 74, No. 11 Topsail 36

The Trojans were on fire from the opening whistle, shooting 54 percent from the field (26 of 48) on their home court. 

Multi-sport standout Kveon Griffin recorded a triple-double with 15 points, 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals. 

Matt McKenney added 13 points by going 6 of 8 from the field. He also came up with a team-high six steals and handed out three assists.  

West Brunswick (10-5, 1-3 Carolina Coast) led 27-5 after eight minutes and 46-14 at halftime. 

The Trojans made six 3-pointers, all from different players. Jerrison Dixon added nine points, while Nick Graham and Andre Thomas Jr. both scored seven. 

Next up is a game at North Brunswick on Friday night at 7:30. Topsail (4-11, 1-3) visits Laney at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

No. 6 Cape Fear Academy 67, John Paul II 31

No. 5 Topsail 58, No. 11 West Brunswick 36

Eight Pirates reached the scoring column, led by sophomore Ava Kita’s 22 points, in the road victory. 

Kita scored nine of Topsail’s (10-5, 3-1 Carolina Coast) 15 points in the second quarter to increase the lead to 24-14 at halftime. 

The Pirates added 15 more points in the third quarter before putting the game out of reach with 19 points over the final eight minutes.

Charley Moore chipped in 11 points, while fellow senior Jaelyn Dabideen finished with seven. 

West Brunswick (3-12, 0-4) got nine points apiece from Ja’kya Johnson and Tameya Thomas. 

A game at Laney on Friday at 6 p.m. awaits Topsail. The Trojans travel to North Brunswick at 6 p.m. Friday. 

No. 4 Cape Fear Academy 61, John Paul II 36

Double-doubles from Londyn Doughty and Lulu Wells lifted the Hurricanes to their sixth consecutive victory.

Doughy finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Wells scored 12 points to go along with 11 steals. 

CFA (13-2, 3-0 CPIC) also got 17 points from senior guard Milly Kelley. 

The Hurricanes’ average margin of victory over the past six games is 29.2 points. 

Next up is a road game against Parrott Academy on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

No. 9 Southeastern Christian Academy 51, Mintz Christian Academy 2

For the second time in five days, the Warriors held their opponent scoreless over the first three quarters.  

Eight of the 10 players who suited up scored. Ella Gregory finished with a game-high 13 points, while Anelina Lauver added 11. Cohlie Bynum nearly joined them in double figures with nine points. 

SCA (11-4) led 23-0 after the first quarter and 32-0 at halftime. The game went to a running clock early in the second half. 

The Warriors host Wilmington Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
