GIRLS BASKETBALL
No. 9 East Columbus 65, No. 18 West Columbus 24
Senior guard Malayah Hines scored 16 points to reach 1,000 for her career, and the Gators rolled on their home court.
East Columbus (11-4, 6-2 Waccamaw) held a 17-9 lead after the first quarter. It ballooned to 41-12 at halftime.
Freshman Mckenzie Spivey made four 3-pointers en route to a career-high 18 points. Joining Hines and Spivey in double figures were Malia Graham (18) and Rylie Graham (10).
West Columbus (2-13, 0-7) got nine points from Makayla Jennings as well as eight rebounds from Demya Powell.
Next up for the Gators is a game at Trask on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Vikings visit Pender at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
No. 5 East Bladen 66, No. 17 South Columbus 18
The Eagles jumped out to a 30-4 lead after the opening eight minutes and continued to cruise.
Nine players scored, led by Laila Smith with 18 points. Fellow senior NeNe Ward added 11 points, while junior Ariel Cromartie finished with 12.
East Bladen (16-3, 8-0 Waccamaw) also got seven points a piece from Tyliah Freeman and Aaliyah Monroe.
South Columbus (5-13, 2-7) was led by freshman De’Asia Johnson, who scored eight points.
The teams will meet again, this time at South Columbus, on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
No. 10 Cape Fear Academy 57, Arendell Parrott Academy 40
A 25-point performance from Milly Kelley lifted the Hurricanes to a home victory that wrapped up the Coastal Plain Independent Conference regular season title.
The junior guard added five rebounds, five steals, four blocks and three assists.
CFA (16-5, 9-1) will play in the CPIC semifinals on Thursday.
BOYS BASKETBALL
No. 15 East Columbus 47, No. 19 West Columbus 43
Senior standout Jaden Troy had an outstanding performance in his final regular season home game by finishing with 26 points and eight rebounds.
East Columbus (9-10, 4-4 Waccamaw) held a narrow 23-21 halftime lead before extending it to 41-31 after three quarters. Troy knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and scored 12 points during the eight-minute stretch.
Adrion Jenrette chipped in eight points.
DJ Graham and Emmanuez Jones each knocked in three 3-pointers for West Columbus (3-14, 0-7). Graham scored 16 points and Jones chipped in 15.
Both teams will be back in action Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The Gators visit Pender, while the Vikings host Trask.
No. 4 Cape Fear Academy 57, Arendell Parrott Academy 25
The Hurricanes wrapped up their regular season with a seventh consecutive victory.
Kareem Anderson scored all 19 of his points in the opening three quarters. CFA (16-11, 8-2 CPIC) also got 16 points from Isaiah Gibson as well as eight from Colin Simmons.
The Hurricanes will play in the semifinals of the conference tournament on Thursday.
