Area players&#8217; high schools are also listed.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6>Team records only include games against other members of the Old North State League.<\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Cape Fear Ghost Crabs 11, Laurinburg Highland Hooligans 1 (7 innings)<\/h4>\n<p>Will Jones (WCA) had his best game of the summer by finishing 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored in the mercy-rule home victory.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He crushed a full-count pitch over the left-field fence with two outs in the bottom of the first inning to give Cape Fear (21-9, 18-8 Coastal Division) an early 3-0 lead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Two other local standouts &#8211; Trey Pierce (Brunswick CC\/WCA) and Jack Cuba (Catawba\/New Hanover) &#8211; scored on the long ball. Pierce led off with a double, while Cuba worked a walk.<\/p>\n<p>Jones doubled in the third inning, but was stranded. His final at-bat in the seventh inning resulted in an RBI single to score Gavin Marceric (Tiffin, Ohio) and increase the lead to 8-1.<\/p>\n<p>Brenner Gursky (Brunswick CC) followed with a two-run double. The game ended early when Drew Nye (Highland CC, Kan.) singled home Jones.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pierce was 2-for-3 with a hit by pitch, a stolen base, and three runs. Cuba also finished 2-for-3 with a walk, two RBI, and two runs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Cuba leads the Ghost Crabs with a .386 batting average (27-for-70), and Pierce is closely behind at .381 (48-for-126).<\/p>\n<p>Right-handed pitcher Brent Avery (Bluefield, W.Va\/Ashley) was dominant, striking out six in a complete game. He retired 11 of the final 12 batters he faced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both hits and the lone run he allowed came in the second inning, but Avery avoided further damage by getting a strikeout to strand runners on the corners.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Sandhills Bogeys 4, Oak Island Loggerheads 1<\/h4>\n<p>The Bogeys moved closer to securing the Coastal Division regular season title by connecting on a pair of solo home runs to build an early lead.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That was all the run support the three Sandhills (27-3, 21-3) pitchers would need. Hunter Dakan (Garrett, Md.) struck out six batters and allowed just one run in seven innings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Titus Torbett (Maryville, Tenn.) retired the side in the eighth, and Don Gorgei (St. Andrews) secured the save.<\/p>\n<p>The home runs were hit by Luke Treece (Lee, Tenn.) and Brady Hendrix (Delta State, Miss.).<\/p>\n<p>Oak Island (12-12, 12-12) scored its lone run in the fourth inning by getting three consecutive two-out singles from Justin Dawkins (North Greenville, S.C.), Brady Nathison (Towson, Md.), and Matthew Perez (Catawba Valley CC).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Standings<\/h4>\n<h5>(Overall record, Coastal Division record)<\/h5>\n<p>Sandhills Bogeys (27-3, 21-3)<\/p>\n<p>Cape Fear Ghost Crabs (21-9, 18-8)<\/p>\n<p>Jacksonville Ospreys (19-8, 16-8)<\/p>\n<p>Oak Island Loggerheads (12-12, 12-12)<\/p>\n<p>Shallotte Shallywags (5-21, 5-21)<\/p>\n<p>Laurinburg Highland Hooligans (3-23, 3-23)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NOTES: All players&rsquo; previous colleges are listed in parentheses.
