For the second night in a row, the Loggerheads struggled to generate much offense against the league leaders.

The only run for Oak Island (12-13, 12-13 Coastal Division) came in the bottom of the first inning.

Donovan Brooks (Neumann, Pa.) led off with a single and advanced all the way to third base when a pickoff throw went down the right field line. Justin Dawkins (North Greenville, S.C.) drove Brooks in with a base hit up the middle.

The Loggerheads got a leadoff single from Max Guenther (Moberly Area CC, Mo.) in the fourth inning, but he was thrown out attempting to steal second base.

Designated hitter Brady Wozniak (Washington, Md.) also singled with two outs in the seventh inning.

Sandhills (28-3, 22-3) scored twice in the top of the first inning and added two more runs in the third on a home run from Chris Johnson (Bluefield, W.Va.).

Johnson finished 3-for-3 with a walk, three RBI, and three runs scored. Finley Spicer (St. Scholastica, Minn.) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Peyton Starkey crossed the plate four times.

Masin Hall (Maryville, Tenn.), JD Scarbrough (UNC Pembroke), and Luke Treece (Lee, Tenn.) all collected two hits.

The Bogeys got an excellent complete-game outing from right-handed pitcher Tyler Barfield (Johnson, Tenn.), who struck out eight batters.
